The BPA Controversy
By admin | May 7, 2008
I was first alerted to the chemical BPA while searching online for popular sippy cups. Imagine my surprise when the bottles I had been using and loving for the past year (Avent) were found to contain BPA. If you haven’t heard yet, BPA or bisphenol A is an endocrine disruptor and is widely used in the manufacture of certain plastics. Check out wikipedia for a great overview of the chemical and the controversy surrounding it.
While I try not to be alarmist about these things, I figure if there is a substitute - use it. I no longer use the Avent bottles and will not keep them for future use. I also found a great, inexpensive sippy cup that my daughter loves by Nuby. The Soft Landing has a very helpful look at different BPA-free bottles and sippy cups. I also found out that Avent is bringing out a BPA free bottle this summer. I am glad that large companies are responding to concerned parents and manufacturing items that are as safe as possible for baby!
These Nuby sippy cups are BPA free.
